The American alligator, sometimes referred to colloquially as a gator or common alligator, is a large crocodilian reptile native to the Southeastern United States and northeastern Mexico. Scientific name: Alligator mississippiensis. Lifespan: 30 – 50 years (Adult, In the wild). Conservation status: Least Concern Encyclopedia of Life. Higher classification: Alligators. Mass: Male: 500 lbs (Adult), Female: 200 lbs (Adult). Length: Male: 9.8-15 ft. (Adult), Female: 8.5 ft. (Adult). This beautiful specimen was captured on one of the many estuaries in the Florida Everglades.
