A USMC AV-8B Harrier passes directly in front of the sun, directly over my head, in Lakeland, Florida. This is one of those shots I didn't expect. In reviewing my photography from that day I realized the image would make a really fitting backdrop for John Gillespie's epic WW II poem “High Flight”. The Aircraft I captured is a United States Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier jump jet. Fittingly, the U.S. Harrier was derived from the British Harrier which was a development of the British Kestrel. The aircraft John Gillespie flew during WW II was a British Supermarine Spitfire.
John Gillespie Magee Jr. (9 June 1922 – 11 December 1941) was a World War II Anglo-American Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot and poet, who wrote the poem High Flight. He was killed in an accidental mid-air collision over England in 1941.
Hello, my name is Al Clark. I've been an artist for more than 45 years, and a licensed pilot for more than 38 years, enjoying both aircraft and airport ownership. I've been a published digital artist since before the first iteration of Photoshop. I am currently an internationally published military aviation illustrator and photographer. There's probably not much I can't tackle digitally, and my "every project goal" is to come as close to digital perfection as possible on both the individual pixel editing level and on the gambit of color interpretation scales. Please contact me if you are looking for somebody who truly knows what he's doing in the digital image world. If you don't see it on here, I will create it for you.
