Artist's Description

The Lockheed U-2, nicknamed "Dragon Lady", is an American single-jet engine, high altitude reconnaissance aircraft operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) and previously flown by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It provides day and night, high-altitude (80,000’), all-weather intelligence gathering. Lockheed Corporation originally proposed it in 1953, it was approved in 1954, and its first test flight was in 1955. It was flown during the Cold War over the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, and Cuba. In 1960, Gary Powers was shot down in a CIA U-2A over the Soviet Union by a surface-to-air missile (SAM). Major Rudolf Anderson Jr. was shot down in a U-2 during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

The image portrays a “what if” Israeli version the U-2I Tannin (Dragon)

About Custom Aviation Art

Custom Aviation Art

Hello, my name is Al Clark. I've been an artist for more than 45 years, and a licensed pilot for more than 38 years, enjoying both aircraft and airport ownership. I've been a published digital artist since before the first iteration of Photoshop. I am currently an internationally published military aviation illustrator and photographer. There's probably not much I can't tackle digitally, and my "every project goal" is to come as close to digital perfection as possible on both the individual pixel editing level and on the gambit of color interpretation scales. Please contact me if you are looking for somebody who truly knows what he's doing in the digital image world. If you don't see it on here, I will create it for you.
